CSJ honors Vicky Guetti

The College of St. Joseph observed the 50th anniversary of its founding by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Rutland, Vt. on Monday, March 19, with a ceremony to recognize faculty, staff, and students for their service to the college and the community. Junior Vicky Guetti received the 2007 Mother Teresa Student Service Award. The Mother Teresa Student Service Award is presented to a CSJ student who is actively involved in volunteer programs. This award was first presented in 1998 as a memorial to Mother Teresa and to recognize a CSJ student who is dedicated to improving the community through service to others. Guetti, a graduate of Rutland High School, is currently majoring in the community development and counseling program. One of her passions is basketball and she has been an outstanding member of the women's basketball team since her freshman year. This past season she reached a milestone in her career by scoring her 1000th point. The women's basketball team was named the 2006-2007 Sunrise Conference Championship team and competed in the National NAIA tournament in Sioux City, Iowa. At the tournament, Guetti was named a Champion of Character. Her other passion is helping others and she volunteers her time at the Salvation Army doing various projects such as "Stuff-A-Bus." She also volunteers for the Visiting Nurse program of Rutland by helping them raise money through their annual phone-a-thon. She gives back to her high school by volunteering at local games by doing various things such as team stats, picking up the gym before and after games, video taping games, helping with practices, and helping with special events. She is committed to doing all she can. Each winter, she visits the homes of the elderly in order to help them by shoveling. When the seasons change, she also visits the same folks and helps out with small projects. While there, Guetti takes the time to sit and talk with these people, and she has maintained many friendships this way. The college was honored to present her with the 2007 Mother Teresa Award for the outstanding community service she provides to the college and the local community.
