Child-care center receives state honors

Vermonts Child Development Division (CDD) announced that Weeping Willow Child Care and Preschool, a registered child care home in Whiting, is recognized with three stars in the Step Ahead Recognition System (STARS) for child care, early education and school age programs. Achieving three stars of recognition is an accomplishment for Weeping Willow Child Care and Preschool, said Kathleen Paterson, assistant director of the Child Development Division. The staff demonstrates a strong commitment to providing quality child care and education and has worked hard for this accomplishment. Owner and director Michelle Sherwin strives to offer a uniquely dynamic, play-based preschool curriculum at Weeping Willow Child Care and Preschool. Weeping Willow's daily schedule is designed to foster a love of learning through hands-on exploration, literacy-based experiences, and functional social skills for children birth to grade six. Throughout Sherwin's ten-year career, she has provided personalized learning experiences to help children express themselves independently, in small groups, and expose them to the world through multi-cultural experiences. Educational experiences at Weeping Willow are further enhanced through the parents, professionals and community workers who have volunteered to share their skills and expertise in a variety of fields. Weeping Willow offers a quality learning environment in which children have every possible opportunity to reach their potential as life long learners.
