Westport Drama Club's planning 'Forum' for Fun On Thursday, Friday and Saturday March 29-21, the Westport Drama Club will present A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, the classic Stephen Sondheim musical, with book by Burt Shrevelove and Larry Gelbart. Performances take place at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. The play is family appropriate. The musical comedy, based on the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus (251-183 B.C.), tells the bawdy story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door. Louise McGoldrick stars as Pseudolus, following in the footsteps of other female performers such as Whoopi Goldberg in performing the male lead. Im kind of an instigator because I want to gain my freedom by manipulating everyone elses lives, said McGoldrick. She said the humor was both verbal and visual, and should keep audiences laughing throughout the entire evening. The production includes Alan Ware, Louise McGoldrick, Johnny Stahl, Karina Fink, Spencer Mehr, Alyssa Carroll, Zoe Saulsgiver, Devin Martin, Valentina Rodriguez, Matilda Brown, Martha McKinley, Sarah Gibbs, Kelsey Sears, Kelsey Carroll, Michelle Quaglietta, Cassidy Carroll, Kasadyia Carter-Martinez, Mallory Sudduth, Delaney Sears, Addison Mehr, Alexa Melendez, Covey Fields, Karlee Vaughan, Adam Robare, Johnny Mayr, Austin Martin, Cooper Sayward and Scott Hudson. The show is directed by Jim Carroll and Gigi Carroll, choreographed by Jackie Robertin with accompaniment by pianist Jennifer Moore. Gigi Carroll said its the first time the drama club has presented a musical in a couple of years, which has challenged Westports actors to expand their repertories. Along with performing the play, the students are also doing much of the stagework.
