The New York State Junior Miss Scholarship Program winner will travel to Mobile, Ala., in June to compete for the title of Americas Junior Miss. The state program will be held at the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall on the campus of Buffalo State College, 1300 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo, on Saturday, March 31. Anyone interested in attending the show may contact the Rockwell Hall at 716-878-3005 to purchase tickets in advance. Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the show. Tickets are $20 each. Backus will travel to Buffalo on Tuesday, March 27, to begin four days of practices in preparation for the show. As in the local program, Backus will again be judged while performing in areas such as talent, fitness and poise, as well as scholastics and interview. All contestants will also present a short program to Buffalo area children on what it means to Be Your Best Self. While in Buffalo preparing, Backus will stay with a host family who will be acting as surrogate parents for the duration of her stay. She will also share her host family with another Junior Miss program winner who is the 2007 Orleans County Junior Miss. Her host family will be Mr. and Mrs. Jason Bowers, 133 Ellicott Drive, Williamsville, NY 14221. The Bowers family will be responsible for making sure Backus gets to all her practices and other events on time and properly prepared. Anyone who wishes to send Backus anything may send them to the address of her host parents and they will see that she gets them.
