L'il Abner comes to life at Saranac Central School

The theatrical group, consisting of students from 7-12 grades, will be presenting Lil Abner at the Saranac Middle School Auditorium March 30 and 31 at 7 p.m. and April 1 at 2 p.m. Their presentation will take the audience on a trip back in time to the fictional lives of characters found in Al Capp's famous comic strip Li'l Abner. The play is set in the fictional town of Dogpatch, U.S.A., with the the plot centering on a rural southern community that has been deemed by the U.S. government as "the most unnecessary, no-account" place in the whole country - thereby making it the perfect place to do atomic testing. With the threat of an evacuation looming over the town, the citizens of Dogpatch set out to prove that their town is so necessary. The production will bring to life all the favorite characters of Dogpatch, including Mammy and Pappy Yokum, the homely Scragg family, Marryin' Sam, Earthquake McGoon, Daisy Mae and the famous Li'l Abner.
