Volunteers sought to aid Ironman

One of the basic goals of North America Sports, organizers of the Lake Placid Ironman, is to give back to the communities which support the events that are so critical to their success. North America Sports has granted over $200,000 to the Adirondack region since 2002. For each non-profit or civic organization that volunteers to man an aide station on the course, North America Sports will donate $500 toward a non-profit group or charity of that groups choice. In addition, groups are needed for areas such as banquets, athlete food, on-course directions, family finish area and the volunteer food and fun area. In the past, monies have been used towards the start up of the Lake Placid High School Womens Hockey Program and NYSEF scholarship and travel costs. Each volunteer will receive a race t-shirt, as well as the pride in helping the community host a world-class event. Volunteers can also attend the Ironman Volunteer Party. The party will include great prizes, food and drink for all that attend. North America Sports will also donate cash awards to the charity of choice for the top three areas rated according to best theme. They will also select a volunteer captain of the year and provide each volunteer who attends the party with the Janus Ironman USA Lake Placid DVD, showing great highlights of the 2007 race. To volunteer your organization, contact Ironman USA Lake Placid Volunteer Director Kathy Pfohl at 518-523-2445, ext. 110 or via e-mail at kpfohl@lakeplacid.com.
