Art is fun at CV-Tec

MINEVILLE Its not certain that the groundhogs at Champlain Valley Tech in Mineville saw their shadows Feb. 2, but they sure had fun. Goofy Groundhogs were made by students in teacher Meredith Jacobs art class after they read the book The Groundhog That Slept Too Late. Its great fun, Jacobs said. I love what Im doing. Jacobs is a first-year art teacher at CV-Tec. A native of Saranac, she taught last year at AuSable Valley Central School. Shes a graduate of Marymount College. She loves art and teaching. Im a visual person, Jacobs said. It really makes sense to me to use visual things to get ideas across. Some of her ideas may sound a bit a strange, but shes been welcomed by students, according to Mary Dickerson, CV-Tec principal. Merediths just wonderful, Dickerson. The kids love her. She has very original ideas. Her students recently made plaster arm casts and symmetrical aliens. Student art work adorns the hall ways of the Mineville school. There are a lot of ways to learn, Jacobs said. I just have to find the right ones for my students. The kids have been pretty receptive, she added. If theyre not, I have to take a step back and take another look at what Im doing.
