ELIZABETHTOWN Wilmington Supervisor Jeanne Ashworth wants to make one thing clear: Whiteface Mountain is in the town of Wilmington. Ashworth moved a resolution at the Essex County Board of Supervisors regular meeting on March 5 urging area media to state that Whiteface is in Wilmington as they broadcast events. The board of supervisors unanimously voted to support the resolution, though a few playfully ribbed Ashworth over the issue. Ashworth said that some tourists are under the misconception that Whiteface is in Lake Placid. She explained the misconception costs Wilmington businesses, since tourists might not look to the community for accommodations while visiting the area. North Elba Supervisor Shirley Seney supported the resolution by offering a second. Its common knowledge Whiteface in Wilmington it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure that out. People will still know where Lake Placid is, said Seney.
