PERU Its all about making wishes come true for Tony Deyoe and Alyssa Rosio of Absolute T-N-A Entertainment and Stephanie and Chip Blair, owners of Murphys Tavern. They are currently planning for the third annual Make-A-Wish Idol, a karaoke contest that will be held each Friday from March 16 through May 4. The weekly competitions begin at 6:30 p.m. at Murphys Tavern located on Route 22B in Peru. Not only will the proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish foundations Northeast NY chapter, it is also a chance for the children to become stars of the stage. Four-year-old Fantasia Wells, who recently had a liver transplant and has applied to the Make-A-Wish foundation hoping to meet Dora the Explorer, will be there every week with her family, the Bakers, of Plattsburgh. They plan to be contestants and will also share her story on the final night. Were hoping to get more Make-A-Wish children to tell their stories too, said Rosio. Rosio said they will also have Make-A-Wish representatives there as well. At the beginning of each weekly competition they plan to read a childs wish. For an entry fee of $10 per person per contest week, anyone can join in the fun, including children. The children, however, are handled differently, they need only enter and sing once and are still entitled to perform on the final night. Their prize is a $50 savings bond, and each contestant will receive coupons for free merchandise. The weekly winner will be guaranteed a spot in the final contest, while the first runners up have their names placed in a hat, three of which will be drawn randomly to return as well. The crowd will also be able to vote for their favorite entertainers each week -each vote costs $1, so they can vote as often as they like. Each weeks audience choice winner will gain a chance to appear in the finals, that winner will win $100. Last years event raised $8728, this years goal is $10,000 after the prizes are awarded. Rosio said that they have already secured $1,850 for this years prizes from five generous sponsors - C.B. Trucking, Wes Heating and Plumbing, S and L Trucking, Hamilton Funeral Home, Forrence Orchards and Peru Pharmacy. Absolute T-N-A Entertainment will provide the equipment and act as master of ceremonies. They have also donated a liquor basket to be raffled as a grand prize. They also have a panel of five volunteer judges and many people helping us with the many different aspects of the 8-week competition. Between the entry fees, the auctions, raffles and 50/50s, organizers are hopeful that their wish will also come true!
