MUHS presents 'Kilroy...'

Its always a pleasure to attend the lively, heartfelt annual performances by the students of Middlebury Union High School. This year, the MUHS Class of 2007 will present Kilroy Was Here, a wonderful musical set during World War II. Youll need a doctors excuse to get out of attending this years MUHS performance since the play is for a good causea fundraising effort for MUHSs Project Graduation. Be assured that the play is suitable for all ages, so dont hesitate bringing young children to enjoy the performance. This years MUHS assistant director is Alexis Cowherd and the music director is Lauren Peters-Collaer. The cast boasts more than 60 talented singers, dancers and actorsall local, all brimming with youthful talent. Kilroy Was Here is a delightful musical comedy set during World War II in a USO club (thats short for the non-profit United States Overseas organization) in Brooklyn, N.Y. The play book was written by Tim Kelly with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur. Its a popular play, especially on the high school and community theater circuit. According to Pam Paluzzo, handling publicity for the MUHS production, the leadplaying Private Joe Kilroyis Seth Brown. Brown portrays a young soldier who draws the famous Kilroy cartoon face everywhere he goes. He's also the only one who knows where the next Allied convoy will converge, according to Plauzzo. A cast of enemy agents are played by Wyatt Cleveland, Robyn Stanley, Sophie Allen, Noah Fleury, Emma Leehman Brewer, Claire Greene and Laura Leonard; they act as foils for Browns Kilroy. Other on-stage characters are played by Sam Funk, Holly Atkins, Austin Dempewolff, Juddy Hescock, Haley Kipp and Jessie Werner. The celebrated Kilroy... score includes the stage hits "Don't Say No to the U.S.O.,"Together We are One, sung by Ali Hare, "Slap that Jukebox" (choreographed by Mimi Bain), "Jitterbug Saturday Night" (choreographed by Erika Liljestrand), and "Rat-a-tat-tat That Rivet," with classic Andrews Sisters-style harmony, sung by the riveters played by Chelsea Ortuno, Hilary Hammond and Emily Campbell. Kilroy... can be seen March 9-10 at 7:30 p.m. and March 11 at 1:30 p.m. in the Middlebury Union High School auditorium. Dont miss this one. Youll want to stand up and sing, too.
