LAKE GEORGE Who will stand nearest the groom was the big question for a group of people at the winter carnival this weekend. Jessica Malone and Troy Atkinson of White Plains were in Lake George for the carnival, but they had their own schedule of events. Frequent visitors to the area, they stay at the familys second home in Bolton when they visit. They have chosen the members of their wedding party, but the two best men were having a well-organized friendly competition to see who would stand right next to Atkinson on the big day. Brothers Brendan and Shamus Gorman had a day full of events that included a scavenger hunt, building a wedding dress and diving into the lake. We thought it would be a good getaway weekend, Malone said. They brought several friends with a total of 14 people involved in the competition as cheering sections. One of the early competitions was a build a dress competition, and both men had to wear their creations throughout the competition. Malone and Atkinson had wedding headgear with Mickey Mouse ears, and with the two brothers in their dresses, the group made for some fun people watching. After the scavenger hunt, which ended just before three, the Gorman brothers had to take part in the polar plunge, earning points for things like going in the water, wearing a Speedo or other gear and retrieving a melon that was tossed in. Later, a snowball fight was organized and each man had to do their best to protect the groom from damaging snowball hits. They also had to answer trivia questions about the wedding couple which ranged from shoe sizes to favorite movies. The wedding is set for July 14 in the White Plains area and there are about 240 invited guests. Both Troy and I have lots of siblings, so just the family makes up most of the list, Malone said. They met in college and both work at companies that create scenery and sets for television and the theater.
