WESTPORT With temperatures topping out in the nineties earlier this week, many people start to think about spending some time at the beach.
Westport residents, though, may have to go a bit further to find relief, as the town beach will not open this year.
Westport Supervisor Daniel Connell explained town officials have not found any lifeguards. Without a certified lifeguard, the beach cannot operate.
If I'm able to find lifeguards, we'll open, but as of now, its not opening, said Connell. Connell said that in years past, a lifeguard shortage had made hiring personnel difficult. He added that he was still hoping to find someone to fill the need.
