The village recently receive a $39,000 matching grant from the New York State Parks Department. Part of the match is being met through fund-raising efforts of the Lake Placid Rotary Club.
Gearbeck, a middle school student, gave up his first day of summer vacation to participate in day, but felt it was definitely worth it. He hoped to remain involved with the village, perhaps offering advice on the parks.
Rogers hoped to continue the program, adding that it helped students learn about their community.
I think well get some really neat ideas the more people know about their community, the better of theyll be, said Rogers.
Rogers said he planned on keeping the Not Mayor hat in his office, perhaps to wear during his next bad day.
