ELIZABETHTOWN Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School is looking for someone special.
Principal Amy Tyo plans to leave the school district at the end of June, which leaves the school in need of a replacement. Tyo, who has been at the school for three years, plans on going to General Brown Central School District to take a position as curriculum coordinator.
ELCS Superintendent Gail Else said the school received a total of 21 applications for the position. Last week the school held preliminary interviews with six candidates. The candidates addressed two panels, one comprised of faculty, staff and parents; another comprised of seven students from the sophomore and junior class.
The student panel and staff panel both zeroed in on the same three candidates, said Else.
Else said that three finalists have been selected to proceed to the next phase, which includes in-depth reference checks and a meeting with the board of education, tentatively slated for June 14.
Salary, Else said, would depend on the final candidate and their skill set. The school advertised a competitive wage. Ideally, the candidate would start work in July.
