WILLSBORO The Class of 2009 at Willsboro Central School has gotten the attention of neighboring towns and certainly the Town of Willsboro.
It is always a challenge to come up with fun things for classes to do to raise money and when Class Advisors Becky Provost and Marge Jaquish threw out a challenge to find a unique project, Sue Swires jumped on it, went on-line and came up with the Toilet Swap.
Both Provost and Jaquish were a bit skeptical as to the reaction of the town, but they neednt have worried. With one rare exception, residents of the town have embraced the project and are enjoying it.
When we drove into town from our winter in Florida, the toilets were the first thing we noticed and we couldnt wait to see what was going on; that seems to be the attitude of the majority of residents.
The idea is to place a toilet on some unsuspecting persons front lawn, with a sheet inside giving directions. You may give it back to the class for $2; pass it on to another family for $5 or pass it along to another family with the assurance you will never see the toilet again for $7. There are now 15 of these wildly decorated toilets (empty of course), around Willsboro and Essex; the popularity has grown so that there is now a waiting list of people who want to get into the act.
This project has allowed the class to work together as a group, using their imaginations to decorate the toilets and all monies raised stay right here, with the Class of 2009.
When approached about the project, the administration at Willsboro Central only had one request. One of the toilets had to be decorated in the school colors, red and white, and placed on the front lawn of the school. That toilet is the one in the middle of the photo accompanying this article.
