Caterer opens Ti restaurant

TICONDEROGA Deb Mackey knows a good idea when sees one. I love Panera Bread, she said of the national chain of soup and sandwich shops. The food is good and theyre all very clean and comfortable. So, Mackey decided to create Tis version of the restaurant The Gourmet Gal at 59 Montcalm St. Open now, the restaurant will celebrate its grand opening Friday through Sunday, June 15-17, to mark Fathers Day weekend. Mackey has operated a catering business, also known as the Gourmet Gal, the past seven years. Shes now consolidated that effort with the restaurant at the Montcalm Street location. Weve been doing lunch delivery for local businesses the past couple of years, she explained. This seemed the natural next step. The Gourmet Gal is open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and serves a Sunday breakfast buffet 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. It also serves take-out meals and delivers. People can place orders or make reservations by calling 585-7500. The menu is diverse, featuring fresh pastries, soups, bread, sandwiches and dinners. The Gourmet Gal serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It offers at least three dinner specials every day and makes box lunches for those who call ahead. We dont use processed stuff, Mackey said. We roast our own beef. We make our own bread from scratch. We buy local vegetables and we have really good coffee. We have a coffee (blend) here no one else has in Ti. That coffee is a hit with the The Gourmet Gals coffee club. The first cup is free and every 10th cup afterward is free. Mackey has worked in the food industry most of her life, starting when she was 14 years old at the Sugar Bowl restaurant in Schroon Lake. Its something I love to do, Mackey said. I start baking at 4:30 every morning and Im here until closing. I love it. Its not rocket science, she added. If you give people good food in a nice atmosphere theyll enjoy it and come back.
