Vintage vehicles en route

TICONDEROGA A pair of new events will highlight the 15th annual Antique & Classic Car Show hosted by the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce.

The show, which attracts hundreds of vehicles, will be held Sunday, Aug. 5, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Bicentennial Park.

Last year we had about 285 vehicles from five states and Canada, said Tim Whitford, car show coordinator. This year, were planning on over 300 antique and classic vehicles and motorcycles. If the weather is just right, we may even see more.

New events this year are a Cruise-In and a swap meet.

The Cruise-In will be Saturday, Aug. 4, at Roofers Restaurant near the park. It will feature music, a cook out and awards for best paint, best interior and best engine compartment.

The swap meet, which will be limited to vehicle-related items, will be held during Sundays show in the park.

A highlight of the show will be an appearance by the No. 44 Casella Waste Systems Chevrolet. The car competes in the NASCAR Busch East Series, winning the 2006 championship.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend for free, said Deb Malaney, chamber executive director. Its a great opportunity to see both vintage autos and motorcycles from the 1920s through to unique 2005 models on display and to speak to car owners about their unique vehicles.

The Ticonderoga car show is a qualifier for Cruisin New England Magazines Superwheels Showdown event. The Superwheels show features the best of show and best of super cruise winners throughout New England, New York, and beyond. This year, two special vehicles will be awarded the opportunity to compete at the Boston Showdown event, to be held in October. Sponsorship opportunities are available for these two awards.

In each of the 32 classes, three trophies will be awarded including best of show awards for car, truck and motorcycle. Special awards will be offered for Club Participation, Longest Distance, and Most Likely To Get Pulled Over. Dash plaques and goody bags are given to the first 250 entrants. Valve Cover Races, Muffler Rap, and various entertainment will also be taking place.
