LAKE PLACID The Village of Lake Placid public transit line is officially called LP XPRSS, but it is locally referred to as just the Trolley. Now, thanks to the help of some community school children, each trolley has their own name.
The Trolley naming contest was the idea of new LP XPRSS manager David Wood, who distributed trolley pictures to the local elementary schools to be colored and named. 233 entries were received from the classes at Lake Placid Central School and St. Agnes Parochial School. Four names were chosen for the four trolleys that run the Village streets between Memorial Day and Columbus Day. The winners are:
Wooden name plates will be affixed to the front four trolleys and a small metal plate indicating who named the trolley has been affixed next to the door of the trolley.
Prizes for the winning names were donated by Stewarts, McDonalds, Howard Johnsons and the Palace Theatre. The trolleys were purchased, in part, with funds from the NYS Department of Transportation.
