Essex's busiest day on the horizon

ESSEX A hodgepodge of treasures will be available at Essexs most popular event next weekend Downtown Essex Day.

Its the biggest event of the year its a tried and true fun event, said Essex Initiatives Spokeswoman Jan Eakins.

On Saturday, Aug. 4, the Annual Downtown Essex Day will take place. The event is hosted by Essex Initiatives.

This town-wide market/antique sale is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Walk-on tickets for the Essex-Charlotte ferry are half-price the day of the event courtesy of Lake Champlain Transportation.

The big thing is the antiques and great deals you cant determine what youre going to find, said Eakins.

Visitors can walk the towns pleasant streets and browse for antiques, collectibles, artwork, crafts, and gifts offered by more than 50 vendors, shop owners, organizations, and residents.

Eakins said the event would be larger than recent years, since there are more shop and restaurant choices, along with more vendors expected. The event is held rain or shine, which many exhibitors are set up in the town hall, or under tents.

Several restaurants on the towns main street and on the lakeshore will serve breakfast and lunch, and refreshment stands will be set up around the town. Local churches will provide rest stations.

One of the highlights was handmade Amish quilts, Eakins said. A large array of handmade quilts will be on sale at St. Johns Episcopal Church to benefit health care facilities for people in the Sudan, Africa.

I purchased one of these quilts last year theyre beautifully made, and you cant find something like this around, said Eakins.
