PORT HENRY Locals and visitors are invited to attend the Champ Day Celebration in Port Henry Saturday, Aug. 4.
Champ Day was brought about because of the discovery of the monster in our lake, Jack Woods, president of the Town of Moriah Chamber or Commerce, said. Its a fun tradition and sparks a lot of interest. People have contacted us from all over about the monster phenomenon.
Beginning at 9 a.m., guests can enjoy sales and specials at local merchants, food vendors and entertainment. Vendors from the North Country will also be selling their crafts at the celebration.
Children can enjoy rides and games in celebration of Lake Champlains monster, who will be making appearances throughout the day.
Entertainment will include two performances by John Brooks and a local DJ. This year the Port Henry Theater Group will premier their Champ Dance.
We bring Champ Day to the area because we want to see our community be active, Woods said. It brings a really good community spirit.
In order to involve merchants and local lawn sales, Champ dollars will be hidden throughout the greater Moriah area. The Champ dollars can then be turned in at Sagans in exchange for real dollars. And Champs will also be hidden and turned in for a prize.
Our business community is growing, Woods explained. Putting some of the Champs in their business draws people in.
