Something old, something new: a special exhibit at the Kent-Delord House

PLATTSBURGH The Something Old, Something New exhibit, featured from June 12- July 6 at the Kent-Delord House, features some of the most breathtaking dresses one has ever laid their eyes on dating back as far as 1832, most of which were on loan from the Clinton County Historical Association.
The oldest dress on display was that of Frances Henrietta Delord, who married Henry Livingston Webb on Aug. 13, 1832. Sadly, the young bride died just 19 months later of childbed fever, leaving behind her husband and their one month-old daughter, Frances Delord Webb.
Also on display were the actual correspondence, invitations, elbow-length gloves, grosgrain silk and lace trimmed dress and wedding slippers from the Ada Reynolds and James L. Barnes Dec. 13, 1892 wedding. Both parties were born in the town of Beekmantown.
One of the prettiest and perhaps most elegant of dresses was that of Jane Synder, of Garden City, Long Island, who married Ralph Pete Hubbell, of Chazy on Feb. 6, 1943.
It was a satin creation purchased from Saks 5th Ave, New York, with a ruffle of antique lace added to the neckline. The dress was loaned to the museum by Jane Hubbell.
And although it was not a dress, Museum Director John Kruegers circa 1880s colonial jacket and wedding attire was also on display in the entryway.
Other dresses included one from the Isabel Tanner - Allan Bombard wedding in 1950 (that dress was made from the gown worn by her great-grandmother, Margaret Beckwith, who married John Wolcott Hubbell in Chazy in 1856); Margaret Stafford -1846; Henrietta Blodgett -1855; Leona Sara LaFountaine - Augustus Roberts, Jr. - 1894; Margaret Egans K.B Battaglina Gown, circa 1900s; Mabel Irene Ebbets - Ross Platt Lobdell - 1906; Mary Coates - Caspar J. Koonz - 1912; Blanche Mae Watson - Fayette Bethune Smith - 1912; Bertha E. Brown - Harold H. Webb - 1924; Marcella Egan - Alfred Dadez - 1929; Lucile H. Stoddard - George H. Muller - 1926; Virginia Mason - Charles Burdick - 1939; Sara Emily Keck - Elmer Henry Bachman - 1940; Mary Joan Koonz - William Wilson Egan - 1946; Helen Roberta Clark - Robert Frederick Vunk - 1948; and Molly Kathryn Keefe - Christopher Thomas LaMountain - 2004.
