Moving forward on radio system
The board also approved a proposal to hire Wells Communication and Verizon to interconnect the radio systems of Ticonderoga, Lake Placid and the town of Long Lake to Essex Countys system. The system provides emergency services communication.
The original resolution asked for the county purchasing agent to seek proposals to perform the work, but Emergency Coordinator Raymond Thatcher said that he felt strongly that the matter was a professional contract. He wanted to avoid having providers having issues about responsibility for the system. Wells already performs the maintenance of the current cobbled-together system, which has parts dating back to the 1950s.
Verizon was hired to install the equipment for $68,400, and Wells Communication was hired for $15,000 to do the linkage work.
