School Commissioners say no to Governor's cap

The Technology committee will expand its purview to include Infrastructure, the physical component of implementing technology into the schools, focusing on such issues as security. The Finance committee will continue its traditional role with oversight for the budget and the management of capital projects.

Commissioner races and non races

Two members of the Burlington School Board are retiring, opening the field for some new faces, and in one case, for a contest for the open seat. Board Chair Paul Hale from Ward 7 is retiring, as is Erik Hoekstra from Ward 2.

The voters on Town Meeting Day will cast ballots for:

Incumbent Keith Pillsbury is unopposed in Ward 1

Jen Lazar is new but unopposed in Ward 2

Incumbent Marissa Caldwell is being challenged by Denise Foote in Ward 3

Incumbent Wally Elliot is unopposed in Ward 4

Incumbent Fred Lane is unopposed in Ward 5

Incumbent Jurik Homziak is unopposed in Ward 6

Two newcomers Bob Hooper and Tom Treat will compete in Ward 7.
