AVCS student earns state recognition

CLINTONVILLE;One of Au Sable Valley Central Schools musicians has earned a place among the states most talented performers. Alex Casey, an eighth grader at AVCS, has be awarded a place in the New York State Band Directors Associations Middle School Honor Concert Band. It is one of the highest honors you can have as a middle school band student in the state, said AVCSinstrumental instructor Terry Saulsgiver. About 230 musicians applied for admission, and 97 were selected. The selection is based on a New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) audition solo. On March 2 and 3, Casey will participate in preparation and a concert in Syracuse. The group will performed in the Grand Ballroom of the Double Tree Hotel. Selections will include Fanfare for the Third Planet, Ye Banks and Braes O'Bonnie Doon, Encanto and Regenesis. Casey has played the bassoon for four years. Along with her musical achievements, Casey is involved in the schools basketball program and is an honor student. Alex strives, always, for the top. Shes just a really special girl, said Saulsgiver.
