Town clerk plans run for supervisor

BOLTON LANDING Boltons town clerk is looking for a new job. Kathy Simmes, who is in her 29th year as town clerk, is going to run for town supervisor this year. I decided a few weeks ago that I would run, she said. People want a change, thats what Im hearing around town. Simmes said she feels that she is qualified since shes been town clerkfor so many years. She said shes been answering questions for Bolton residents and would continue to do so as supervisor. She has two passions in town that she wants to address. I want to put Rogers Park back to what it used to be, she said. Theres been some erosion and the grass is in tough shape. She would like to see some top soil and landscaping at the park, and if possible, shed like to see the hill flattened so people can sit and enjoy the performances that take place there during the summer. The other project Simmes would like to see done is the Conservation Club building. It was a fish and game club at one time, until the membership dwindled and the club couldnt afford its upkeep. The town took over the building and it is still used for different events by the people of Bolton. Its over 50 years old and in rough shape and people still use it, Simmes said. We had some volunteers working on it for awhile, but it would never meet building codes now. Simmes would like to see a new building on the site, using salvaged things from the existing building like its new kitchen and bath. Id like to see a Conservation Park there, she said. I would hope to make it affordable for the people of the town to use. She said it could also have an outdoor recreation area. Simmes said she has met with the county Republican Committee and is also seeking the endorsement of the Democrats so she can still run if she loses a primary. I think well see others running in this race as well, she said. She expects incumbent Alexander Gabriels III to run for a third term as well.
