Schools ready for high energy performance

CHESTERTOWN Several area school districts invited highly acclaimed guest musician Joe Sallins to perform during the month of February, Black History Month. Joe Sallins a bassist, drummer, composer, teacher, and extraordinary performer will entertain students at Bolton Central School and North Warren Junior/Senior High School, and other schools in the area. Sallins assemblies offer a variety of music styles including jazz and African or Latin American rhythms. He likes to include student participation to develop social skills and demonstrate the positive effects of teamwork. His workshops range from percussion and dance to improvisation and choral orchestration. Sallins has several recordings out, and he has performed with the Uhuru Drummers, Matt "Guitar" Murphy of the Blues Brothers, jazz bassist Vishnu Wood, trombonist Charles Greenley, Dan Akroyd, and Lenny Baker of Sha Na Na. He conducts clinics and workshops and has several years experience doing programs in schools.
