Local vet honored by wildlife group

WARRENSBURG The Veterinarian of the Year award is presented to a veterinarian who has demonstrated outstanding qualities and skills that have contributed to a cooperative working relationship between the veterinary community and wildlife rehabilitators. This year, North Country Wild Care has honored the selfless caring and generosity of Dr. Brian Landenberger of the Schroon River Animal Hospital in Warrensburg. This award was initiated in 1997 to recognize those veterinarians who have demonstrated outstanding qualities and skills that have contributed to the treatment and care of sick and injured wildlife. It is also in recognition of the special professional working relationship that exists between these veterinarians and wildlife rehabilitators. North Country Wild Care (NCWC) is an organization based in the Adirondacks that was formed as a not-for-profit in 2001. It is a group of home-based rehabilitators who depend on the help and assistance of area veterinarians. NCWCs 60 members hail from Warren, Washington, Saratoga, Albany, Schoharie, Oneida, Essex, Herkimer and Franklin Counties. NCWC members took in and provided care for over 1,400 animals last year. This would not be possible without the help provided by Landenberger and other veterinarians in the area. For more information visit northcountrywildcare.org. For wildlife emergencies, call their hotline at 964-6740.
