Lake freezes in time for carnival

LAKE GEORGE - Less than a month ago, it was 60 degrees and Lake George fishermen were in boats, not shanties. But Adirondack weather is known for its sudden changes, and somehow, the lake froze in time for the first weekend of the winter carnival. We had about one more week of waiting and we wouldve had to go back to the drawing board,?said carnival organizer Linda Duffy. Thank God it froze. Frigid temperatures over the last few weeks have produced about five inches of ice for the opening weekend, allowing for outhouse races on the ice along with skydivers floating out of the sky. With Mother Natures cooperation, this weekends events will go on as scheduled.?For the weekend of Feb. 10 and 11, this is the schedule for the Lake George Winter Carnival: Saturday and Sunday each weekend Children's activities Snowmobile water skip Ice skating all day Games at noon Polar plunge 3 p.m. Snowmobile sleigh rides Open skating/Bumper Cars at L.G.
