Jan. 15, 1891 Ice in the Hudson River between Stony Creek and Thurman is from 24 to 30 inches thick. Keith and Meredith Sonley of River Street are proud to announce the birth of a baby boy born on Sunday, Jan. 21 at the Glens Falls Hospital. The little man weighed seven pounds, 11 ounces, and was 20 inches long. He has been named Keith Melvin Dermott. He joins a 2-year old sister, Lonna, at home. Proud grandparents are Gerald and Michele Hamilton of Diamond Point and Shirley Sonley of Newfoundland and the late Keith Sonley. Congratulations Keith and Meredith! (Meredith was a rural mail carrier in Thurman part-time until mid-January 2007!) Openings An unannounced occupancy tax meeting was held on Wednesday, Jan. 17 with few members of the committees board in attendance. At this time the town is looking for residents who would be willing to help make decisions on the occupancy tax money and to sit on the board. Please send a letter of interest to the town clerk at Box 29,Athol. Copies of this impromptu meeting minutes are available; please call ahead at 623-9649 or 623-4588. Needed: Someone to take over the Extra Helpings food program in Thurman. For details call 623-9649. Twenty-nine members of the Sugar Loaf Mountain Seniors Club met on Saturday, Jan. 20 and enjoyed a turkey, biscuits and gravy luncheon. Some discussion at the meeting was on upcoming bus trips and the club welcomed a new member. The next meeting on Saturday, Feb. 17 will be a Valentines Day theme. Stop by the town hall at noon to join us! Trail ride Feb. 10 - meet at 11 a.m. at 1000 Acres for a snowmobile ride, weather permitting. A long trail ride for the Thurman Connections Club and friends. Meetings The Thurman Emergency Squad meets on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. at the squad building. A reminder that they are looking for a used snowblower. The town hall will be closed on Feb. 12 and also on Feb. 19. The Youth Commission meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13 and needs members for the Youth Commission board. Call 623-2249 for more information. The planning board meets on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. at the hall. The quilting group meets on Friday, Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the hall. Everyone welcome to stop by. The Sugar Loaf Seniors covered dish luncheon and meeting is on Saturday, Feb. 17 at noon at the hall.
