Christmas is such a magical time, especially when you get to enjoy it with younger children. The rapid tearing off of the wrapping paper, the anxious waiting for someone to assist them getting the item out of its packaging. Then it is quickly on to the next package. Our family had a wonderful holiday with several gatherings to enjoy , as I am sure many others did also. Another special joyous occasion was to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of Anne & Sam Marcotte this past weekend. Their children pulled a surprise gathering for them at the new Mountain View Restaurant, with many family and friends attending. Happy to see that Dan Schrieber was able to get home from the Hospital before Christmas. Sad to report that Ken Stafford suffered a broken leg after a snowmobile accident. Hopeful his recovery will come along quickly. Many had hoped that we would enjoy a beautiful white Christmas, but the rain hit just prior to the holiday and now the snow is covered with thrown back dirt, not pretty. The one good thing about it is travel conditions are better. One of our local Scout Leaders shared with me that the Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts recently did some great community service projects. On Nov. 21 the Cadette group went to the Town Hall and decorated and filled food boxes for Thanksgiving. A little later the Cadette & Senior Scouts spent their Saturday at the Horace Nye Home sorting and wrapping gifts for the residents. On Dec. 18 the girls went back to the Town Hall to decorate and pack more food boxes for Christmas. A great job by the girls and made for a better holiday for many. It was also reported that back on Dec. 1, twelve members of the Willsboro High School Band braved one of the coldest mornings to go the Essex Ferry Dock to play Christmas music and greet Mr. & Mrs. Santa who came across on the Ferry to greet those in Essex. Due to the extreme cold, it was a real challenge to make some of their instruments play properly, but all in all they did a great job. Birthday Greetings to Kimber Young 12/26, Cole McCarthy 12/27, Peg Schnieder 12/27, D.J. Belzile 12/9, Victor Perry 12/30.
