HAGUE Hague will host its annual Scholarship Weekend Feb. 16 regardless of weather conditions. Formerly known as the winter carnival, this marks the 35th year of the event held the weekend prior to Presidents Day in Hague. There has always been one thing or another that weekend, said Sal Santaniello, one of the organizers. The focal point of the weekend is the towns Beste Scholarship Fund. All proceeds will go toward the scholarship fund. Highlighting the event will be the annual Beste Scholarship dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Silver Bay Association. Following the dinner the annual Beste Scholarships will be awarded and the Northern Lake George Rotary Club will host an auction. Well have more than 100 people for that, Santaniello said. Its a really nice night. Also on tap that day is a five-mile road race. The Fred LaPann Memorial Road Race will start and finish at the Hague beach Saturday. The course is an out-and-back race on Route 9N. Race registration is at 8:45 a.m. and the run begins at 9 a.m. Runners age 19 and younger can compete for free, while adult racers will pay a $7 registration fee. In past years the Scholarship Weekend has included the Hague Fire Department breakfast, lawn chair and outhouse races, a polar bear swim and cross country skiing. None of those events have been scheduled in 2007, Santaniello said.
