Witherbee man cited by county

WITHERBEE A Witherbee man has been honored by the Essex County Board of Supervisors for his efforts to save a life last summer. Dave Allen Jr. was cited by the county board. Last Aug. 12 Allen was riding his motorcycle with a group of Moriah residents when they came upon a motorcyclist who had just wrecked on the Blue Ridge Road in Newcomb. Allen, a corrections officer at Camp Adirondack in Ray Brook, performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for more than 50 minutes while his co-riders went for help. There was no cell phone service in the area. The crash victim, who was being followed by family members in a car, was eventually airlifted to Albany where he died of his injuries. Its unfortunate the individual didnt live, but Dave did everything in his power to save him, Moriah Supervisor Tom Scozzafava said. I know; I was there. Riding with Allen and his wife, Kris, that day were Scozzafava and his wife, MaryLou; George and Gail Pilger; Rory and Jeanette Rotella; and Jamie Wilson. Members of the Moriah party went in opposite directions toward North Hudson and Newcomb in an effort to find cell service and call for help. Other members of the group stayed with the victims family as Allen performed CPR.
