William C. Ward, Sr.

WESTPORT William C. Ward, Sr., of Westport passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Dec. 14, 2007. Bill was born June 1, 1952, to Carl and Grace (Farnsworth) Ward. He was a 1970 graduate of Moriah school and BOCES where he studied auto mechanics. After graduation, Bill went on to open Bill Ward's Arco station. He then was a police officer for the Town of Moriah and from 1957-77 he played semi-pro football in Glens Falls, N.Y. He was very active in the Kiwanis Club where he helped to organize the first Town of Moriah youth center and was also an active Mason with the Morning Sun Lodge. He later moved on to work for Torrington Industries where he started as a truck driver, then Plant Manager and finally District Manager. Bill's most recent employment was with 3-J fuels of Champlain before his retirement in January 2007. Bill is survived by his wife LuAnn of 29 years; one son William C. Ward, Jr., of Tampa, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law Jacqueline and Daniel Goralczyk of Albany, N.Y.; daughter Michelle Ward; his brother and his wife Jack and Yang Ward of Florida; sisters Judith of S.C. and Carol of Schenectady; Stepfather Kenneth Budwick; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Grace Budwick; father, Carl Ward; and his sister Darlene. Bill was known throughout the years for his soft-spoken and quiet ways. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and having coffee with his friends. He was very loved and will be greatly missed. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry, N.Y. A graveside service will take place in Union Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Westport Ambulance Squad or the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center of CVPH.
