Vikings down Ti; Schroon posts wins

Kaylee Sprague had a big game to lead Moriah past Ticonderoga, 63-53, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls basketball action Dec. 14. Sprague had 23 points, 13 rebounds and five steals to pace the Vikings. Chelsea McKiernan added 19 points and 10 boards for the winners. Moriah used a 17-9 run in the second quarter to grab a 31-20 edge at intermission. Ti fought back within four points in the final quarter, but the Vikings sealed the deal with free throws down the stretch. Juliann Mandy tallied 17 points and Kate Huestis 15 for Ticonderoga. Schroon Lake 44, Crown Point 22 Schroon Lake used a balanced attack to beat Crown Point, 44-22, in Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference girls basketball play Dec. 12. The Wildcats got 10 points apiece from Moriah Williams, Kathleen Decker and Ashley Whitty in posting the win. Schroon jumped to a 14-4 lead and extended its advantage to 26-10 at intermission. Jordan McGinness and Ashley Zapolski each had eight points for Crown Point. Lake Placid 39, Moriah 37 Moriah lost a big lead and a game to Lake Placid, 39-37, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls basketball action Dec. 12. The Vikings led by 13 points in the final quarter, but Placid closed the game with a 19-4 run to claim the victory. Chelsea McKiernan had 18 points for Moriah. Westport 50, Schroon Lake 46 Schroon Lake led in the final quarter but couldnt hold on as it lost to Westport, 50-46, in Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference girls basketball play Dec. 14. The Wildcats led by eight points with four minutes to play, but Westport closed the game on a 19-7 run for the win. Savannah Clark scored 12 points for Schroon. Schroon Lake 35, Indian Lake 14 Schroon Lake used a rugged defense to beat Indian Lake, 35-14, in a Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference girls basketball cross-over game Dec. 17. The Wildcats held Indian Lake to a bucket in the opening quarter and limited the visitors to five points in the second half. Jessica Mehm tallied nine points for Schroon. ELCS 54, Crown Point 40 Elizabethtown-Lewis topped Crown Point, 54-40, in Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference girls basketball play Dec. 18. Ahead 27-17 at the half, ELCS iced the game with an 18-9 run to open the third quarter. Jordan McGinness had 13 points for Crown Point.
