New insurance provider entering Clinton and Essex counties markets

ELIZABETHTOWN A new option will be available Jan. 1 for businesses seeking to provide their employees with health insurance. The New York State Department of Insurance has authorized MVP Health Care to offer employer-sponsored health insurance plans in Clinton, Essex, Franklin and St. Lawrence counties. We can provide some competition there are not a lot of health care options for the region, and were looking forward to being able to compete, said MVP Spokesman Gary Hughes. MVP will offer a full range of products including the companys new generation of Preferred Provider Organization and Exclusive Provider Organization plans that include a Wellness Suite that helps employers reduce their health care costs by providing an easy-to-administer, health-promotion benefit, Mr. Hughes said. Mr. Hughes said the company had a very solid network in the region, which was demonstrated through the certification process. He added the company had previously been offering health maintenance organization, or HMO-style coverage in the region. MVP already serves adjacent Jefferson, Oswego, Oneida, Lewis, Warren and Washington counties. It currently serves more than 660,000 members throughout New York State, Vermont and New Hampshire. As a regional not-for-profit health insurer, MVP Health Care looks forward to working closely with employers to promote good health in Northern New York, said MVP president and chief executive officer David W. Oliker.
