Hannaford Supermarket announces plans to relocate

RUTLAND Hannaford Supermarkets announced today that it has purchased the unopened Stop & Shop Supermarket located on Route 7 in the Green Mountain Plaza. The new Hannaford is expected to open in February. This is a great opportunity for us to better serve our Rutland area customers, said Hannaford spokesperson Caren Epstein. The store is considerably larger than our existing location and will allow us to offer our customers additional products and services. Hannaford will be purchasing the store, lease, and assets. While the store will open in February, the exact date has yet to be determined. The Hannaford store at 241 South Main St. will close once the new store opens. Plans for the South Main St. store are under consideration and no final decision has been made. Hannaford Bros. Co., based in Scarborough, Maine, operates 165 stores under the Hannaford Supermarket and Hannaford Supermarket and Pharmacy names, including 14 in Vermont. Stores are located in Maine, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Hannaford stores feature Guiding Stars, Americas first storewide nutrition navigation system.
