United Way campaign surpasses half-way point

PLATTSBURGH The annual campaign for the United Way of Clinton and Essex Counties Inc. has passed the half-way point toward a goal of $700,000. The annual campaign, conducted on behalf of the organization's 33 community partner agencies throughout Clinton and Essex counties, helps to minimize duplication of efforts, donor fatigue and high fundraising costs. "It's a united way, rather than a divided way of raising critical funds and it's the community at large and our friends and neighbors who are the real winners, said local United Way executive director John C. Bernardi. In addition to fundraising, the local United Way coordinates a variety of initiatives including disaster preparedness, assessment of community needs, 2-1-1 information and referral, early childhood development and human services networking. Numerous businesses, agencies and individuals participate in the annual campaign through employee, corporate and residential giving. "Our campaign team has been impressed so far by the generosity of people throughout the two counties and we hope that this spirit will get us successfully to our goal for the community," said Robert Donlan, campaign chairman and partner of Donlan and Barcomb Financial Services. "We are blessed to live in a region that demonstrates such a strong commitment to friends and neighbors." Businesses, groups and individuals interested in participating may contact the local United Way office at 563-0028 or visit their Web site at www.unitedwayce.org to view the campaign video and learn more about the organization's mission.
