The Olde Farmacy opens as gift shop in Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN Its been a rough year for Cynthia Reinmann, but shes celebrating the holiday season by returning to something she loves: operating a gift shop. The former Pleasant Valley Pharmacy has reopened as The Olde Farmacy, a store which specializes in gifts and holiday decoration. Reinmann, as manager, has used her creative talents to create an atmosphere that is festive and breathtaking. Currently The Olde Farmacy is bedecked in Christmas splendor, with a display that has to be seen to be believed. The store has a one of a kind inventory, featuring hand-selected tasteful items, unique necessities, Yankee candles, Webkinz, furniture, folkart and gifts. Reinman said she hoped to evolve the store into a year-round destination, offering kitchen items and furnishings. Owner Bill Delahant also owns The Lake Placid Christmas Company, and the stores currently share some inventory items. Of course, Christmas items will also be sold year-round, along with other seasonal goods. The store is a labor of love for Reinmann, who has past experience as a store owner and display designer. She strives to keep the prices affordable. This is what I eat, sleep and breathe. I couldnt ask for anything more, said Reinmann. One of the displays includes an old horse barn, which has been reconstructed within the store to highlight the shops Adirondack item offerings. It makes it a whole lot more fun, said Reinmann. I want people to feel comfortable here, and have a good experience. For Reinmann, opening the shop has been therapeutic. She lost her husband, David, this past summer to cancer. Her father passed away in September, delaying the shops opening until December. Reinmann said that she felt her husband had sent business owner Bill Delahant to her. Four weeks after his death in July, Delahant approached her to design and manage the store. Bill called after my husband died, and asked if I wanted to open a store, said Reinmann. Reinmann noted that there were now several shops on Court Street that offered a variety of gift options. She said Court Street Collectibles, Adirondack KK Ranch and Balsam Hollow worked well together, helping create a destination for shopping. Reinmann said The Olde Farmacy carries a gift registry, and items can be ordered on request. Elizabethtown resident Isabelle Bailey was impressed while checking out the store for the first time. I think its beautiful. Weve been holding our breath waiting for it to open, said Bailey. The more stores like this in town, the more people will come. The store is open Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The shop will also be open on Sundays, Dec. 16 and 23 to accommodate Christmas shoppers. For more information, call 873-2581.
