Horace Nye residents cook up some Christmas cheer

ELIZABETHTOWN Residents of the Horace Nye Home baked up a storm to support the activities department recently. On Dec. 6, the nursing home hosted its annual Christmas bazaar and crafts sale. Several residents of the home spent the prior Wednesday cooking in a special "cooks corner" program, preparing breads, pies and donuts for the sale. Resident Irene Brown said she enjoyed cooking with the nursing home's program, although she wasn't much of a cook at home. "It's a group project, and the residents enjoy doing it," said activities aide Yvonne Ashline, who coordinated the event. She said there was greater resident participation this year than in the past. The sale also featured a book sale and crafts made by the residents. Resident Etta Cornwright of Lewis was one of the people serving as cashier. She explained that she'd made two fruitcakes with help from her son while visiting home. She enjoyed the event as an opportunity to socialize. "There's so many things and so many people - it's interesting to see what's going on," said Cornwright.
