Exotic Lake Placid?

If you open up a copy of National Geographic Traveler or Conde Naste, usually you expect to read about wild and exotic destinations complete with tales of their elegance and amazing experiences of the lucky few of us who might get a chance to reach one of these faraway locales someday. One of the exotic places recently featured in both publications can best be described as a great northern getaway, far removed from bustling urban centers and the chaos of everyday life. Its friendly locals and great cuisine entice travelers all year-round to come and sample its magnificence and wonder at the glorious landscape that surrounds it. National Geographic even says that it deserves an Olympic medal for everything you can find to do here. Im sure by now that Ive given away this destination Lake Placid has undoubtedly taken its place in travelers circles as a gem but one very much within reach. Even better, publications like Traveler and Conde Naste have a combined readership of over 1.5 million people a very wide circle indeed. Traveler even included some words by one of our own 20 year Lake Placid resident and telemark skier Pat Ledger. He noted that the Adirondacks offer everything you can find out west, but you can actually afford to live here. Or just visit it doesnt require a trust fund to ski our slopes or hike our mountains. Thats exactly whats so great about Lake Placid and the Adirondacks you dont have to be one of those lucky few explorers to venture to our region. All you need are a pair of hiking boots or a love of relaxing by the calm waters of a mountain lake (Ive yet to find someone who doesnt enjoy that) to find yourself in our neck of the woods, and we are sure to welcome visitors with the hospitality that were celebrated for.
