Asthma and gaining weight

If you have asthma and have gained some weight, expect to use your inhaler more and have more frequent attacks. A recent study suggests that a 5 lb weight gain over one year will make patients 22% more likely to have poorly controlled asthma. We already know that extra weight is detrimental in patients with chronic lung disease. Considering the number of young individuals with asthma, the study results are very significant and a strong reason to keep weight under control.
