Vermont firm to raise funds for Quadricentennial

A Vermont consulting firm has been hired to begin a two-year fundraising campaign for the Lake Champlain Quadricentennial commemoration in 2009. Johnston Consulting, Inc., led by company president Darcie Johnston and associate Susie Hudson, was selected from a national pool of candidates as the professional fundraiser for the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlains arrival to the lake, event officials announced today. The Champlain 400 Legacy Fund, Inc., a nonprofit corporation created by the Lake Champlain Quadricentennial Commission, interviewed candidates and unanimously agreed to hire Johnston Consulting. Based in Montpelier, Johnston Consulting has raised more than $22 million for local and national clients since 2000. The Champlain Legacy Fund and Johnston Consulting have identified a budget need of $10 million for the Lake Champlain Quadricentennial, a year-long celebration that will begin on Dec. 31, 2008. In 2009, Vermont, New York and Quebec will mark the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlains first visit to the region and the exploration of the lake that now bears his name. The goal of the Lake Champlain Quadricentennial Commission is to plan and promote activities that will encourage learning and exploration of the areas history, culture, and landscape by both visitors and Vermonters.
