Student is Teddy Bear's "Citizen of the Year"

Middlebury College student, Alexander Hall, is the recipient of the annual Vermont Student Citizen Award for his volunteer efforts the John W. Graham Emergency Shelter. The award, presented by The Vermont Teddy Bear Co., recognizes exceptional volunteer efforts by college students across the state. The award carries a reward of $1,000 to the student, a corporate gift of $1,000 to the non-profit organization where the student serves, and a $1,000 gift to the institution the student attends. Hall, who rose to the top over ten finalists for the award, plans to graduate in January 2009 with a degree in international politics and economics. The Stillwater, Minn., native was an intern at the shelter during the summer of 2006 and has continued working with the shelter and joined the Board of Directors where he serves with distinction. He has upgraded the organizations computer applications, researched national and local trends in housing and homelessness to bolster the Shelters grant writing efforts and built a fundraising database. Hall designed and produced a website for the shelter that is capable of accepting donations online for the organization in addition to arranging fund-raising events to benefit the Shelter. In addition to working with the John W. Graham Emergency Shelter Hall has been a part of the Alliance for Civic Engagement at Middlebury College and is involved with Middleburys Sunday Night Group a group dedicated to tackling issues of environmental safety and housing in the community.
