Sentinel girls rely on seniors

TICONDEROGA This could be a banner season for the Ticonderoga girls indoor track team. A experienced crew returns from a year ago when the Sentinels finished second in the Section VII championship meet. Our girls surprised us last year, Coach Walt Thorne said. They were second place at sectionals last year scoring over 100 points, which is the first time that has happened since Ive been with the team. This is Thornes eight season as a coach, three as an assistant and the last five as head coach. Returning to the Sentinel team this winter are sprinters Sarah Bennett, Anna Besson, Samantha Cawley, Nicole Duross, Shannon James, Ainsley MacAlpine, Katherine McBride, Emily Palmer, Elsie Phillips, Lexi Reale and Arielle Vilardo. Throwers returning are Emily Ezzo, Britni Phinney, Amanda Powers, Emily Price, Rachel Ward and Colleen Walls. Walls will also run distance races. Distance runners returning include Katie Karkoski, Amber Perkins and Miranda Ross. Our strength lies in our senior leadership with several girls with at least three years of experience, Thorne said. Lexi Reale, Samantha Cawley, Emily Palmer, Ainsley MacAlpine, Elsie Phillips, Emily Price, Amanda Powers, Rachel Ward, Arielle Vilardo amongst others will lead our team. New to the roster are Michaela Jebb in the sprints and Rianna Millington and Brittany Holt in the distance events. Assisting Thorne with the coaching duties this winter are Jay Wells in the distance events and Phil Kneller in the throwing events.
