Schroon Lake, Crown Point post wins

Schroon Lake opened the Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference girls basketball season with a 56-47 win against Elizabethtown-Lewis Dec. 4. The Lions raced to a 17-4 lead and then hit clutch shots in the final quarter to withstand an ELCS comeback. Ashley Whitty had 19 points and 11 rebounds to pace Schroon. Jessica Mehm hit 18 points for the winners, while Moriah Williams contributed 12 rebounds and eight points. Schroon Lake 39, Fort Ann 18 Schroon Lake held Fort Ann scoreless in the opening stanza en route to a 39-18 non-league girls basketball victory Nov. 27. Ashley Whitty tallied 10 points and Jessica Mehm eight for the Wildcats. Indian Lake-Long Lake 43, Crown Point 34 Indian Lake-Long Lake pulled away in the second half to beat Crown Point, 43-34, in a Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference cross-over girls basketball game Nov. 28. Jordan McGinness scored 16 points for Crown Point. Ashley Zapolski added 12 for the Panthers. Sentinels fourth Ticonderoga finished fourth in the Stephanie Wheet Memorial Tournament in girls basketball action Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Ti lost to host Peru, 65-26, in the opening round. Peru raced to a 26-6 lead and never looked back. Ahead 32-16 at the half, Peru iced the game with a 19-3 run to open the third period. Kate Huestis had 10 points for the Sentinels. In the consolation game, Ti lost to Elizabethtown-Lewis, 36-34. Trailing by seven points, the Sentinels rallied to tie the game, but Kelsey Gibsons two free throws with 10 seconds to play lifted to the Lions to victory. Julie Thompson had 14 points for Ti. Crown Point 35, Johnsburg 26 Crown Point downed Johnsburg, 35-26, in a Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference cross-over girls basketball game Nov. 30. Jordan McGinness had 22 points and six rebounds to pace the Panthers.
