It was easy to see that the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce Santa Fest was a success. It was in the smiles of hundreds of children who flocked to the Community Building to see Santa and participate in holiday fun. The Santa Fest committee that made the event a reality deserves praise for putting together a wonderful afternoon. The committee included chairwoman Bonnie White, chamber President Pam Nolan, chamber Director Deb Malaney, Wendy and Ray Burroughs, Stan Burdick, Scarlette Merfeld and Matt Courtright. Also helping were Tammy Snyder, who coordinated music, and the Ticonderoga Fire Department, which decorated the tree outside the Community Building. Assisting the planning committee was a group of Ticonderoga High School students who helped children with crafts. It takes a lot of work and planning to entertain 300 youngsters high on holiday anticipation, but the Ti chamber did it well. Santa Fest featured a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, a community tree lighting ceremony, live entertainment by Ti Idol performers, refreshments and activities, such as ornament making, tree decorating, making of holiday cards and balloon art. We want to make this our festival every year, adding things and making improvements as we go, White said. Thats an admirable goal. Lets hope its the beginning of a long tradition in Ticonderoga.
