Roy Hurd to headline Schroon Lake Christmas Celebration

SCHROON LAKE There will definitely be the sound of music in the streets of Schroon Lake on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 8. "The Olde Tyme Christmas Celebration is shaping up to be even more festive then last years very popular event, states committee member, Patti Mehm. The Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce and local businesses invites the entire Adirondack Community out to enjoy the evening performances, all of the concerts are free of charge. Plus, there will be fun for the entire family with many other activities. Through the generosity of the Arts Council of the Northern Adirondacks and a grant from the Decentralization Grant Program, the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce will host Adirondack musician Roy Hurd, as the headline act of the evening. Roy will have 3 - 30 minute performances at the Community Church, starting at 6, 7 and 8 pm. To kick the event off, Roy will be at The Towne Store at 4:00 pm, performing some acoustical music and signing autographs. Also performing at the Community Church will be the Schroon Lake and Mountainside Students at 6:30 pm and the popular Schroon Lake Community Choir at 7:30 pm. Local performers Bert Britt and The Riverside Reeds will be performing at area businesses, with two shows at 6:30 pm and 7:15 pm. In addition, there will be strolling carolers, visits with Santa, horse and wagon rides, face painting, Children's Crafts, a Basket Raffle and an 8 pm Christmas movie. Roy Hurd is a dynamic performer from Saranac Lake and a world-class singer/songwriter. In the years he has been performing, Roy has played his brand of mountain music all around the Adirondacks and nationally. He also has two Arts in Education programs he has developed for elementary schools. From 1990 to 2001, Roy held a staff song writing position in Nashville, writing for two of the largest publishing companies in the world: Sony Music Publishing and Warner/Chappell Music. "Roy Hurd is the best known singer/songwriter in the Adirondacks. His appeal lies as much in his storytelling as it does his smooth vocal delivery and clear guitar work. The force of his belief is in the gentleness of his delivery."
