JOHNSBURG If youre in the area and looking for a unique way to usher in the New Year, you will definitely want to stop by Gore Mountain Ski Resort in North Creek on New Years Eve to check out the New Years Eve Fireworks Spectacular sponsored by Lincoln Logs. The event will begin at dusk (around 5-5:15 pm) with a torch run, a traditional prelude to the fireworks. The torch run is truly a spectacle to behold as approximately 50 skiers, all members of the Gore Mountain team, descend the mountain via the gondola line from the Wild Air trail to the arena holding ski poles with flares attached to one end. The effect is a snake-like trail of sparkling light that twists and curves to its final destination at the base of the mountain. Immediately following will be a fifteen minute long fireworks display that has gained a reputation as one of the best around. We do some really unique types of fireworks, reported Gore Mountain marketing manager Emily Stanton, Weve heard people comment that its some of the best fireworks theyve ever seen. You can get a super view of the display from inside the base lodge or outside on the deck. After the fireworks, dont miss out on top-notch entertainment by acoustic musician Chuck Kelsey who will be playing from 4-8 pm in the Tannery Pub located in the base lodge. This years Fireworks Spectacular marks the fourth year of the event, but its the first time that the celebration will be held on New Years Eve. We were just looking for it to become more of a party atmosphere this year, said Stanton. The nice thing about it is that its early enough so that people can do other things later on in the night. This event is free to the public, and is a great attraction for all holiday visitors and area residents. Bring your family to this one as kids will especially enjoy this festive celebration.
