Christmas production on tap in Ti

TICONDEROGA A 32-year-old holiday tradition will continue in Ticonderoga. The Champlain Valley Chorale will present its holiday concert, Christmas Now and Then, Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church, Wicker Street, Ticonderoga. The chorale and the annual holiday concert traces its roots to December 1975 when a ecumenical choir from the First United Methodist Church in Ticonderoga joined with a choir from St. Patricks Church in Port Henry for a performance. That was the beginning, said Bob Bartlett of the chorale. Now were one of the oldest choral groups in the North Country. The Champlain Valley Chorale now has members from Ti, Port Henry, Schroon lake and beyond. This years musical event promises to be, according to its directors, an eclectic mix of beautiful holiday music.. Valerie Dixon and Jennifer Moore will share the directoral/accompanyist responsibilities for the approximately 50-voice choral group. Val and I decided to go back in the chorale archives for this concert, Moore said. Well be doing some old favorites as well as some pieces we havent done in a while. There will be a wide variety of music. Following the concert, a reception by the Ticonderoga Garden Club will feature Holiday Magic as its Christmas present to the community. This admission-free concert is always an excellent beginning to the holiday season, said Bartlett, and the public is cordially invited to attend. The Champlain Valley Chorale has been rehearsing for its upcoming Christmas concerts for months in Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church. Its been great fun, Moore said. The collection of characters in this group is far-ranging, she said. Its makes for such a fun time whenever we get together. Its as much a social event as a rehearsal. Dixon agreed. Its a wonderful group of people, she said. Ive been with the chorale since 1998 and loved every minute of it.
