PHS rock climbers past first test

Poultney High Schools rock climbing team participated in its first successful competition at the Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center in Rutland. The climbers started the season with great enthusiasm ready for the physical challenges and teamwork that awaited them. The competition lasted from 4-8:30 p.m. with students from eught different schools in the greater Rutland area in which the climbers were scored based on the completion of three climbs at their highest ability. The PHS middle school team members included Sadie Brown, Conor Tougher, Justin Mackey, Dan Warnecke, and Asa Kuhn; and for the high school team, Dyllan Winters, Samantha Steves, Swan Connolly, Zachary Sawyer, and Katie-Ann Simons. Earlier the day of competition Justin Mackey stated, I feel good, very strong. His teammate, Asa Kuhn, added, I think were going to do pretty good. I feel that well come in the top three. Justin and Asa could not have called it any better. PHS middle school team took second place, and the high school level took fourth place. Sadie Brown and Swan Connolly were awarded the top female climbers. What an incredible and extraordinary achievement for the first competition. Coaches Lauren McCoy and Chris Borodenko who run the after school climbing club, now in its third year congratulate the climbers on a great job.
